Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation is an emergency procedure that involves chest compression along with artificial ventilation used in the condition of cardiac arrest.


Lie patient supine (on the back) and kneel down beside the patient’s shoulder or neck.

Interlock your fingers and place your hand on patient’s chest between the nipples keep your elbow straight and position your shoulder directly above your hand.

Using your upper body weight apply firm vertical compressions on the chest approximately 2 inches but not greater than 2.4 inches. Push hard at a rate of 100-120/min.

Open the airway with head-tilt and chin-lift maneuver. Put your hand on patient’s forehead and tilt the head back gently then with other hand lift the chin forward to open the airway.
