Who understands love?

Who understands love?
How does it operate?
I don’t know;
Its operation intrigues me;
Why we love one person,
And not the other,
Bids my imagination;
And all we say is
Love is blind;
One man’s meat,
Another man’s poison;
You see somebody
You cannot resist;
Asked why,
You cannot explain;
Such is the way of love;
Hard to understand;
Sweet it is,
But easy also
To turn the other way;
From sweet to bitter;
From joy to pain;
It is tender;
And needs handling with care.
That is how I understand love.

[Book Review] Shadow of the Fox

Purple Manatees

Title: Shadow of the Fox
Author: Julie Kagawa
Pages: 409
Genre: Fantasy, Action & Adventure, Young Adult, Japanese Folklore
Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

This is Book One of a Trilogy. Therefore it is not a complete story.

At first, I was hesitant to read this book at first but found that it is heavily based on Japanese folklore. In historical times, there were many different yokai (demons) who plagued the world. There are also people who are hired to fight them. One of these such people is Tatsumi also known as the Kage demonslayer. He is tasked with a mission to find The Dragon Scroll. Along the way, he meets up with Yumeko, a half-kitsune who is put in charge of finding a secret temple thousands of miles away. The two must journey together in order to find the secrets each…

Casual Relationships?

R. Michael

I’ve said it before, it is a writer’s job to pay attention to happenings within society. Western culture is steeped in isolation.  Most people have forged little islands for themselves.  Sometimes those islands have room for a friend or closest family members, but beyond that there appears to be little engagement.  Things like “casual friendships” and “casual relationships” are common place.  What does it mean to be “casually” involved with someone be it friendship or romantically?  From my perspective it reflects an unwillingness to invest.

Let’s get this out of the way first.  There is no way to possibly keep in active contact with everyone you’ve known or once had a friendship with.  There is nothing wrong with relationships changing and sometimes people grow apart.  That is perfectly okay.  Especially if it is mutual.  I think we all look back on our past and think, “how was I ever friends…

5 Steps to Master Networking Skills and Perfect Your Personal Branding

The phrases “personal branding” and “networking skills” make a lot of people cringe. It’s often associated with being sleazy and ingenuine, with the main goal being wriggling your way into the “inner circle” for your own selfish reasons.

Leaving aside the nasty reputation, networking—if it’s based on building genuine relationships—is one of the most powerful tools for personal brands.

First of all, hanging out with the crowd in your industry is important for being able to learn from the best—knowledge sharing is one of the most powerful ways for everyone to succeed.

Networking is also a great way to get yourself associated and on the radar with other professionals—not just because, but for establishing useful partnerships and cooperation.

There is definitely a subtle art behind successful and authentic networking. Besides the work that goes into figuring out your motives, finding your approach, and creating compelling conversations, a lot of hard…

Softboys are the wolf in sheep’s clothing currently terrorizing the dating scene

City Women & co

December 10, 2018 at 05:30AM

The first time I saw 500 Days of Summer, it left me feeling irritated, even angry. Okay, fine: The movie straight-up made my blood boil. At the time, I couldn?t place my admittedly judgy finger on what exactly it was about the film made my skin crawl. But now, after several years of rom-com exposure therapy, I?ve figured it out: Joseph Gordon-Levitt?s character is a softboy.

While fuccbois, tiny hat boys, and the like are (relatively) easy to identify, the softboy?s power comes from his ability to blend in and seem completely normal—or even progressive and woke. The softboy?s defining feature is being a wolf in sheep?s clothes, rife with paradoxes for his unsuspecting dates to sort.

Generally speaking, he seems to understand the plight of women and be an ally against misogyny. But (but!), if you pay attention closely, you?ll hear him slip…

Isn’t it stupid?

Isn't it stupid to survive
A fierce storm in the wild ocean
To drown in a brook
Near your house?
Isn't it stupid to escape from
Dogs into waiting lions
In a lion's den?
Isn't it stupid to skip over
A stick on your path
That looks like a serpent,
Just to land on a serpent?
Isn't it stupid to jump
Without knowing
Where you will land?
Just to land where you don't like?
Always know what you
Are leaving behind, when you leave,
And what is waiting for you
Where you are going.

Hallowed Grounds

unveiled rhythms

All ye who grieve reveal thyself not
For the crux of a journey is the end,
Reads the signage of the halcyon Ground.
Here we stood cushioned by the tinting Leaves with uneven gusts of uneaten Fruits. Today, I come here to observe my Future abode. This is where I place my Faith of Worship. Not just I.
Deluded multitudes before, after and Now.

A fine promise. A just sacrifice of now
For an uncertain dollar.
We were just visitors, the hosts Unprepared, failed to sheath the truth.
We had thought where we came from Was cold,
We shivered till we came across a second Signage,
Enter when ye don’t recognise thy Shadow.
We related, grimaced and walked Further.

A sage barefooted stood chanting quiet Truths on the bleeding thorns.
We offered boots only to be pitied by Him.
Mildly bewildered, we were swooped into A reverie of sorts by…

Release Day: Wicked Origins

Where you at?

Hi everybody!

It’s been over a week since we spoke last, and I’m sorry if you were biting your nails waiting for this post to come along (If you were then I’d love to know that! lol)! I had a bit of a health issue pop up that took my attention for the better part of last week, but I’m on the mend and feeling much better. This will be a little shorter than usual, it’s more of an update than anything else.

I want to briefly give a shout out to the Mamas out there who have toddlers…you are a freakin’ superstar and I love you. Toddler parenting is much more work than any parenting book I ever read said it would be. I always hear about the tantrums and the terrible two’s but man, nothing prepared me for the venture and journey called potty training! I tried the…

What forty years of photography has taught me

The Rivendale Review

canal parbold_edited The Leeds-Liverpool canal at Parbold, Lancs.

I was out along the canal yesterday with my camera. There were the usual canal-side scenes: houseboats moored-up, ropes taut, cosy curls of smoke rising from squat chimneys. There was a bridge, a windmill, an old canal-side pub, and a low, wintry sun scattering yellow stars across mud coloured water. It was late afternoon with a clear, pale sky, but little energy in it, and it was cold. I took around twenty shots, but none came out the way I saw them. They lacked detail, seemed flat, with a compressed range of tones. Indeed, I might have done as well with my phone – and my phone’s not great.

This tells me two things, both probably true: One, I’ve still a way to go before I learn how to handle that camera properly and, two, my imagination tends to overpaint a scene in ways…

By those other fellows?
Don’t you know they aren’t
Smarter than you?
They only look smarter than you;
You are smarter than them;
Only you don’t believe it;
You are by far smarter;
You must pluck courage;
Stick out your neck;
Before you know,
You would have conquered
The world.

Do you know the difference between hope and expectation ?

We hope ,we like to hope, we live on hope, we feel good to hope. We hope something better must happen in future. We hope-he must be cured. We hope -oneday the girl will get job. We hope the mother who lost her husband last month can be capable of leading her life by taking her one child.

We expect -my wife should love me. We expect -the boy should defeat the first boy in next examination. We expect -he will pay my bill. We expect – my father will give me his house. We expect – my husband will give me a diamond ring on this anniversary. We expect- my best friend will give some gift as we are meeting after long years.

I have given some examples. Can you see the differences ? Whether your hopes will be…

Business Task Management: How To Manage Multiple Business Projects

Matt's Digital Marketing Blog Updates

Somebody said to me recently, how is it we’re juggling so many projects? How is it we’re able to manage it?

I want to give a bit of advice on that and just share how we do that. The question ultimately being, how do we manage… how are we now managing so many projects and getting so much done in, essentially now, a shorter period of time?

Here’s The Truth, Here’s The Reality…

And I’ve spoke about it in the past. It’s only recently, in the last few months, that we’ve actually been able to do that. That we’ve actually been able to manage multiple projects, have multiple things going on, and everything being executed now in a timely manner.

Over the last year… before the last few months… and I’ll tell you what’s changed recently, because there’s a few things… Over the last few months we had lots…

“Arrangement in Black and White”

by Dorothy Parker (1927)

The woman with the pink velvet poppies twined round the assisted gold of her hair traversed the crowded room at an interesting gait combining a skip with a sidle, and clutched the lean arm of her host.
“Now I got you!” she said. “Now you can’t get away!”
“Why, hello,” said her host. “Well. How are you?”
“Oh, I’m finely,” she said. “Just simply finely. Listen. I want you to do me the most terrible favor. Will you? Will you please? Pretty please?”
“What is it?” said her host.
“Listen,” she said. “I want to meet Walter Williams. Honestly, I’m just simply crazy about that man. Oh, when he sings! When he sings those spirituals! Well, I said to Burton, ‘It’s a good thing for you Walter Williams is colored,’ I said, ‘or you’d have lots of reason to be…

WOW !!!

Research Overloaded

The name ammonite, from which the scientific term was derived, was inspired by the spiral shape of their petrified shells, which somewhat resembles the twisted horns of ram. Pliny, the Elder, in the year 79 AD, according to the Julian calendar, called fossils of these animals Ammonis cornua (horns of Amun), because the Egyptian god Amon was depicted with the horns of ram. The name of ammonite genera often ends with -ceras, which in Greek means ‘horn’.

Originating from the early Nautiloids, Ammonoid Cephalopods first appeared in Devonian, about 400 million years ago and became extinct at the end of Cretaceous, 65 million years ago, along with the dinosaurs.

The classification of Ammonoids is partly based on the ornament and the structure of the partitions of shell chambers. While all the nautiloids exhibit soft curved seams, the ammonoid seam line (the intersection of the partition with the outer shell) has…

“When my daughter, the elder of my two, wed and left home, I felt a part of me gone.

With a daughter and a son, I know what both mean, differently.

When she was in her teens I felt as if she was my “physical extension” !

So when she left home to set up her own, I felt I lost a limb.

Next time she came to stay with us, I was astonished how her priorities had changed.

We too must’ve given the same shocks to our own parents !

When she said Amma,
she meant her mother-in-law, not me!

I felt she was always in a hurry to go back to her house and not stay with me for a few more days.

That was the first time, it dawned on me that I have…

Some (not so) Squirrelly Advice for Pleasant Holidays

Mixed Nuts
What do you think about when you think about squirrels?  Ravaged bird feeders?  Acrobatic acts?  Rabies?  The park?  Nuts?  Well, yes, nuts.  That also comes to mind when I think about the December holidays.

Not just the type of nuts we eat — like roasted chestnuts, walnuts on that sumptuous apple pie, or honey coated peanuts in the snack dish, but nuts as in gathering frantically like a squirrel, and nuts as in foolishly excessive holiday behaviors.   It’s a bountiful season for sure, but will it fill us up or leave us feeling exhausted, robbed and empty?

Filling Up More than Stockings
Each of us can choose to step back and celebrate in simpler, more meaningful ways.  You can create a holiday celebration of choice and one that enriches, rather than depletes, you or loved ones — physically, emotionally, and financially. …

“sono solo sincero” mi parve di sentirgli dire” sai bene che non sono capace di inganno”
“ma non ti soffermi pensi mai a pensare un poco, prima di emettere il tuo verdetto?” ribattei trattenendo un lamento che pareva montarmi dal cuore

What If Pearl Harbor Had Not Been Attacked?

Good point ! what if….

Pearl Harbor U.S.S. Arizona in flames after being bombed

December 7, 2018, was the commemoration of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor which occurred 77 years ago. That event propelled America into World War II in 1941 changing the course of world history.

The events leading to the attack reveal that Pearl Harbor Co-Commanders Admiral Kimmel and General Short ignored significant warnings from their superiors prior to the fateful Sunday. Moreover, other ignored warnings and mistakes in communication on the morning of December 7 increased the devastation.

What If It Never Happened?

What might have been the consequences if Pearl Harbor had never happened? For example, what if the warning given on November 27, 1941, had been taken more seriously,

The notice of November 27, to Kimmel, began, “This dispatch is to be considered a war warning,” went on to say that “negotiations have ceased,” and directed the admiral to “execute an…

Excerpt — Burn For Him

Heartstring Eulogies

“And that was when I knew
what it was like to burn for someone.”

When I saw him, it was the ethereal glow surrounding him in a purple haze that caught my attention. He stood in a casual stance, wearing black. But his hair was my downfall. It was straight and brown, curtaining around his face on one side while the other was tucked behind his ear, threatening to fall in the breeze. Chocolate, brown eyes flickered to mine and my breath caught in my throat. He held my gaze, and I couldn’t breathe.

God, but he was the most gorgeous creature I ever saw. Something about him made me feel alive again. I wanted to feel his skin. Taste his lips. Feel the silkiness of his hair. The stubble on his cheeks. It made my fingers twitch and my lips tingle at the thought.

It was illogical. I didn’t…

Let The Children Come

One Way Studies

Rev. Sudha Mehta©

Photo from Son of God movie.

It is believed that the primary caregivers, in most cases mother and father, have the greatest influence and impact on a child in the formative early years. These years are what define a child’s life and destiny. Interestingly, it might be said that all is based on information the child internalizes.

The point is made well by the story of a young Prince. This is Indian history. During the English Reign in India in 1836, a baby boy was born to the Maharaja (Mighty king) Randhir Singh of the region of Punjab. Maharaja Randhir Singh and his lovely and fiery Queen, the Maharani Jind Kaur loved their baby boy the Crown Prince Dalip.

Try to be ever ready

What will happen to you
If you are not ready
When the Lord shall come?
This is a question to ask yourself;
Have you ever done so?
We have to be ready;
You get ready;
And I get ready,
While we wait for the Lord
To come.
The Lord himself commanded:
“You must be ready;
For the Son of Man is coming
at an hour when you do not
think He will.” (Matt. 24:42-44).
You must “be dressed in readiness,
and keep your lamps lit.(Lk. 12:35-40)
Get yourself ready
To do what you must do;
If you are ready,
You will do it well.
If you are not ready,
It is doubtful if you do it well;
Try to be ever ready.

Worth Trying: 12 Acts of Kindness

Amanda Cade

I had a busy, somewhat stressful week. When that happens, I really become attuned to the kindness of others, because little things mean a lot more when I’m trying to keep my attitude in the positive zone. I also make a concentrated effort to spread kindness when I’m feeling stressed, because that usually helps me snap out of a bad mood. And since we’re in the holiday season, 12 feels like the right number of my favorite acts of kindness to share.

So if you’d like to try spreading some cheer, you can…

Stu’s Story – Permanent Peripheral Neuropathy from Cipro

Fluoroquinolone Wall of Pain

Six years ago I was put on a 3 1/2 week therapy(seems so paradoxical to even use that word)of Cipro twice a day. I have been in medical sales all of my professional career and should have taken closer notice, that my legs were hurting me and should have stopped immediately. I took a generic so there is no recourse legally for the damage that was done.

I have never recovered, in fact, in many ways symptoms have grown worse. Post Cipro I was left with Peripheral Neuropathy in both feet, shins, calves, 24/7 365.

It is daily torture and difficult to live with(but its better than the alternative). I also deal with diffuse pain all over my body and no doctor can tell me the cause. I have Idopathic Peripheral Neuropathy(meaning, there is no known cause).

Each doctor I have seen, I tell them that I know that the…

Excerpted from “Full Spectrum Wholeness”:

Quotes from this Video:

“As our own spiritual perception matures, it’s defined more by wholeness than anything else.”

“You can have that experience of being a particular human being, of being nothing, of being everything—but the end result is wholeness.”

Can Screen Damage Your Eyes?

“Don’t watch TV for too long, don’t sit near the TV, don’t play the game for too long”, you would probably have heard these words from your parents when you are in front of digital screens. But Can screens really damage your eyes?

There are dozens…dozens of research on this topic but there is no good evidence that staring at the computer can cause permanent eye damage. However, at the very least they can cause temporary annoyances like headaches.

If you stare at a screen for too long you may find yourself feeling what’s known as digital eye strain or computer vision syndrome. The most common symptoms are blurred vision, headache, and pain in the neck and shoulders. Fortunately, the symptoms of digital eye strain go away when you give your eyes a proper rest and studies haven’t shown any long-term effects.
